GoVision delivers a landmark digital upgrade at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Featuring digiLED stadium LED screen technology

One of the 20 largest sporting LED screens in the world

When Charlotte Motor Speedway set out to give every single fan a front-row experience using one of the world’s largest sporting LED screens. They called the one company they knew could handle a job this big on a schedule this tight: GoVision.

The challenge of delivering such a large stadium LED screen?

Replacing the ageing main screen with the largest (at the time) LED display ever installed at a NASCAR track – over 15,500 sqft, more than 5.5 million pixels – and having it fully operational in just 100 days between two of the season’s biggest NASCAR races.

“We are incredibly proud of this installation. This LED display doesn’t just set new standards for size, but also for clarity and brightness, ensuring that every fan has the best seat in the house. Whether it’s the thrill of a race or the excitement of a live concert, this LED display will enhance fan experience like never before.”

Chris Curtis, Founder – GoVision

GoVision excel at large scale LED projects, from: engineering, steel verification, project management, installation and commissioning, with digiLED playing a supporting role.

They selected digiLED as the LED screen partner and specified a custom-built P16 VISION ULTRA LED screen that delivered the brightness, clarity and colour accuracy demanded by the client.

Clever design allowed for retrofit install

A huge win came early when GoVision’s engineers confirmed the original 77-foot tall steel structure was still structurally perfect.

Bespoke designed digiLED VISION ULTRA panels were light enough to mount directly onto the existing framework, GoVision and digiLED’s design saved the track from having to rip out and replace more than 150 tonnes of steel – a move that cut time and costs dramatically, whilst avoiding around 183 tonnes of needless CO₂ emissions.

“Fifteen years ago, the cost and impact of steel was a tiny consideration, now steel is a major part of any project’s budget, especially one as large as Charlotte Motor Speedway. By repurposing the original steel framework, the project avoided unnecessary waste and supported eco-friendly practices, which was a key priority for all involved.”

A sports LED screen built for durability

North Carolina’s sun, humidity and hurricane-strength winds can be brutal on outdoor screens. GoVision needed panels that would stay cool without fans and were tough enough to endure the ever changing conditions.

The aluminium design of the VISION ULTRA modules gave exactly that: superior thermal management, lower maintenance and the strength to handle anything the weather throws at it.

With only a short installation window available, the modular digiLED panels slotted together quickly, enabling GoVision’s crews to meet every deadline and hand the screen over ready for race day.
