digiLED continues to strengthen its Asia operations in Japan with the appointment of Toshihiko Ohnishi, ex-SONY executive, as a director. He will lead work on compliance with Japanese laws and regulations for installations, electrical work and related requirements, while supporting the wider Asia team as the business grows and works to deliver a higher standard of service to clients. His appointment brings extensive experience in the region and an opportunity to mentor members of the organisation. This begins with ongoing internal improvements that help digiLED maintain a consistently high level of operation across the region.
Jon Perkins, Group Technical Sales Manager and digiLED ASIA board member, said: “We are extremely excited to welcome Toshihiko Ohnishi to the digiLED ASIA team. His appointment shows our commitment to building strong foundations as we look to further increase our market reach in the Japanese market, as well as adding experience to our global leadership team. We have ambitious growth plans, and his appointment is a big step towards delivering a higher standard of service and compliance for clients across the region.”
He brings a long and varied career, much of it spent at Sony. He began in 1979 after studying electronic engineering at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto and went on to hold senior international posts that included Managing Director of Sony’s Professional Division for Asia (based in Hong Kong), President of Professional Solutions of America, Sony Electronics Inc. (USA) and Senior Vice President (Corporate Executive) of Sony Corporation (Japan) until his retirement in 2017. He gained hands-on experience across product development, marketing, sales and operations in Japan, the UK, the USA and Asia, and later took on outside board and advisory roles, including with Felica Networks and companies closely involved in development of 4K and 8K content creation workflows for broadcasters and other professional sectors.
He sees the role as an opportunity to apply his knowledge and experience of improving quality and workflows in content production to operational and compliance requirements as digiLED’s Asia business continues to grow.
Outside work, Toshi’s main interests are golf, reading, and travelling. He first took up golf in the UK in his mid-twenties while based near the city of Basingstoke, and has continued to play regularly ever since, including courses in Scotland, across the UK and on the US West and East Coast. He also reads widely on business strategy, economics and history, and has already started recommending “great reads” to colleagues across all levels of the digiLED Group.
digiLED looks forward to Toshi’s contribution as the Asia business continues to develop and push into new sectors.
