The Emirates – Arsenal Football Stadium Highlight Screens

Premier League Club upgrades football stadium highlight screens with digiLED technology

Transforming the match‑day atmosphere at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, digiLED installed two massive stadium highlights screens – each coming in at 96 m², they were designed to fit into the existing framework saving upwards of 200 tonnes of steel.

In 2022, Emirates Stadium, home to premier league football club Arsenal, asked digiLED to replace their two huge 96sqm football stadium highlight screens with newer, greener technology.

The installation was completed over the summer break, with a hard deadline of the middle of August, as this is when the stadium re-opened with the Arsenal vs Leicester City game.

Balanced between tech and practicality

The investment was an easy decision for the stadium due to the new digiLED VISION A sport stadium LED screens not only having a much tighter pixel pitch than the predecessors, at 6.9mm, but also having an improved resolution, much higher brightness levels and all with a reduced power
consumption.

digiLED were able to retain all of the original screen’s structures, including the three storey gantry behind the original displays that are used for servicing. Some very minor modifications to the old steelwork were required to make it fully compatible with the new VISION A panels.

Serviceability and maintenance

Re-using the structure meant that the time taken to decommission the old screens and install the new ones was halved, resulting in a significant cost saving for the client, whilst also increasing the green  credentials. This is just one of many examples where digiLED have pioneered a reinstallation of a screen where the vast majority of the  original steel work has been retained.

One of the biggest challenges digiLED were faced with was the dismantling the old screens from the framework and safely removing them. By comparison, the new VISION A panels weigh as little as 25kg per sqm. Swapping a tile or other components will now takes less than a minute, whereas this could have been a half hour process with the old screen.

Brightness and efficiency

“digiLED has a long running relationship with Arsenal, and this is now the 3rd generation of screens that Graham, CEO of digiLED, has overseen for the club.

While the 2009 screens worked for an impressive 13 years, there is no reason to think that 15 years might be achievable from these new screens.

Normal operating brightness for the new screens on matchdays is only 20%, meaning there is loads of LED brightness (and lifetime too) in reserve that can be called upon as these screens nature.”
