High-performance LED screens for a future focused university campus
The £75 million Cavendish Building at the University of Derby Business School was designed to reflect real-world business environments. Across lecture theatres, teaching rooms and specialist trading spaces, LED display technology plays a central role in delivering immersive, industry-led learning.
Working in partnership with AV integrator GVAV, digiLED supplied high-performance, energy-efficient LED display solutions throughout the building – supporting hybrid teaching, flexible collaboration and long-term sustainability.
LED screens for education
“In this building we have two lecture theatres, 13 classrooms, meeting rooms, a podcast studio and collaboration spaces. GVAV was involved in every aspect of that – from the LED displays through to microphones, speakers and room control.
Sustainability was a key element of the project, which is why we went with digiLED. Their ZEUS technology allows the LED walls to be physically powered down, meaning they take no power when they’re not in use.”

Lecture theatre LED displays using NANO COB technology
At the heart of the Business School sits the Ashby Lecture Theatre, featuring a 6 metre wide digiLED NANO COB LED screen.
With its ultra fine-pitch and chip-on-board technology, the display delivers exceptional clarity at close viewing distances – ideal for detailed educational content and presentations.
A second Harvard-style lecture theatre mirrors this approach with a 3 metre wide NANO COB screen, creating visual consistency and a familiar user experience across teaching spaces.
These installations provide seamless visuals that outperform traditional projection – particularly in architecturally complex spaces.

Trading floor immersive LED displays
To support real-world business education, digiLED delivered specialist LED installations that replicate professional trading environments.
A continuous LED ticker runs through the ground floor atrium, reinforcing the identity of the Business School from the moment visitors enter the building.
On the first floor, another digiTHIN HD MAX LED ticker wraps around the dedicated trading room, delivering real-time stock market data and price movements that support scenario-based learning and replicate professional trading environments.
These installations demonstrate how LED display technology can function as both an architectural feature and an immersive learning tool.
digiTHIN HD MAX“There are elements to some of the rooms that are more specialist – in our financial trading lab, you’ll find a ticker screen which provides financial information in a way students would expect to see when they go into the world of work. It’s designed to look and behave as it would in the real world, in a real business setting for our students.”

Sustainable LED displays for higher education
Sustainability was a key driver in the design of the new Cavendish Building.
All the LED installations incorporate our patented digiLED ZEUS® power management system, enabling the displays to be fully powered down when not in use – eliminating standby power consumption.
In a multi-room university environment where LED screens operate daily, this significantly reduces energy usage and supports long-term operational savings. ZEUS ensures the University benefits from high-impact visual technology without compromising environmental objectives.
