YCCC

When Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) decided to upgrade their existing 5,000 nit, 22mm pixel pitch LED screen at Headingley Stadium in 2023, they had two clear priorities: to reduce energy consumption and increase brightness, ensuring virbant, high impact visuals even under direct sunlight, when conditions are most challenging. With these goals in mind, they turned once again to their trusted partner digiLED, who had originally delivered the stadium’s previous screen back in 2009.

The brief was clear, to deliver a brighter, more energy-efficient solution that could handle even the most challenging viewing conditions. digiLED proposed their digiLED VISION MAX PRO 10mm system, a custom-made cabinet that was designed specifically to git the existing steel structure. This approach eliminated the need to manufacture a new structure, avoiding a massive 13.3 tonnes of CO2 emissions and allowing for a more sustainable installation.

Despite offering twice the brightness of the previous screen, with its 10,000 nit maximum brightness, VISION MAX PRO consumes just 165 watts per square meter, thanks to its efficient electronic design and intelligent component selection. The screen also features digiLED’s latest patented technology digiLED ZEUS® (Zero Energy Use System), which reduces the standby power consumption of the screen from around 75,000kWh per year to ZERO.

The impact of this technology is substantial. Every year, the system will save approximately £22,000 in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by 16 tonnes. Combines with the savings from reusing the original structure, the total environmental benefits are significant.

In addition to significantly increased brightness levels, digiLED cleverly engineered a unique mask with shaders and viewing angles tuned perfectly to the requirements of Headingley Stadium, all of which enhances the matchday experience for fans.

“It has been a pleasure to work once again with the team at YCCC and we are proud to have been involved with the amazing new LED screen at Headingley,” said Guy Horrigan, COO of digiLED. “At digiLED, we pride ourselves on providing innovative technology and bringing our clients’ visions to life and we believe this installation delivers exactly what YCCC envisioned. With our latest green tech, digiLED ZEUS®, we’re helping clients lower energy costs and reduce carbon footprints. All while ensuring the screen’s electronics are kept in tip-top condition during the off-season when the screen is completely powered down, consuming zero electricity.”

Client Testimonial

Our brief was demanding because we’re always striving for better and constantly progressing with energy-saving options and becoming a greener stadium. The digiLED solution was tailored precisely to our needs in terms of brightness and viewing angles and has been installed in an environmentally efficient manner. Beyond that, the energy savings made with the ZEUS power management system will, over the course of the screen’s life, pay for the new installation whilst mitigating vast amounts of CO2. Every stadium would benfit from digiLED ZEUS® technology, it is a no-brainer.
